Generative AI Policy
Jurnal Risalah Addariyah recognizes that Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), including Large Language Models (LLMs) and other AI-based tools, can support various aspects of academic research and scholarly publishing. Such technologies may be used as assistive tools in research, writing, language editing, translation, and other technical processes, provided that their use complies with the principles of academic integrity, transparency, originality, and accountability.
This policy applies to authors, reviewers, editors, and all other parties involved in the publication process of Jurnal Risalah Addariyah.
1. General Principles
The use of Generative AI is permitted when it is used responsibly, transparently, and proportionately and does not replace the intellectual contribution and responsibility of human authors.
Authors remain fully responsible for:
- the accuracy and validity of the content of their manuscripts;
- the originality and authenticity of their work;
- the accuracy and appropriateness of citations and references;
- the interpretation of data and scholarly arguments;
- compliance with research ethics;
- the prevention of plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, and other forms of academic misconduct.
Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of a manuscript.
2. Permitted Uses of Generative AI
Authors may use Generative AI as an assistive tool for purposes such as:
- improving grammar, spelling, syntax, and readability;
- language translation;
- improving academic language and writing style;
- assisting with the development of preliminary ideas that are subsequently critically evaluated and independently developed by the authors;
- identifying relevant keywords or terminology;
- supporting certain technical aspects of data processing or analysis, provided that the methods and results remain verifiable by the authors;
- assisting with other technical or administrative aspects of manuscript preparation.
The use of AI for these purposes does not relieve authors of their responsibility to critically review, verify, and take full responsibility for the final content of their manuscript.
3. Prohibited Uses of Generative AI
Authors must not use Generative AI in ways that:
- generate all or a substantial part of a manuscript without meaningful intellectual contribution from the authors;
- generate research data and present such data as authentic empirical findings;
- generate or fabricate references, citations, legal sources, court decisions, Qur'anic verses, Hadith, scholarly opinions, or other sources that have not been independently verified;
- generate factual claims that are presented as established facts without verification against reliable primary or scholarly sources;
- conceal plagiarism or reproduce another person's work without appropriate attribution;
- fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or otherwise misrepresent research data, images, tables, findings, or evidence;
- violate copyright, confidentiality, privacy, or research ethics;
- generate fraudulent peer-review reports or otherwise interfere improperly with the editorial and peer-review process.
For research involving fieldwork, interviews, documents, primary sources, or empirical data, Generative AI must not be used to substitute for genuine research evidence or data.
4. Disclosure of Generative AI Use
Authors who use Generative AI substantively in the preparation of a manuscript must disclose such use to the Editor.
The disclosure should identify, where applicable:
- the name of the AI tool or system used;
- the purpose for which it was used;
- the stage or part of the research or manuscript preparation in which it was used;
- the verification and review procedures undertaken by the authors.
The disclosure may be included in the Acknowledgments, Declaration of Generative AI Use, or another appropriate section as determined by the Editor.
An example of an appropriate disclosure is:
Declaration of Generative AI Use: During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [name of AI tool] for [language editing/translation/other specific purposes]. The authors critically reviewed and verified all AI-assisted content and remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, interpretation, and integrity of the published work.
Where AI has been used only for minor language correction, spelling, or grammar checking, authors may provide a brief disclosure in accordance with the journal's editorial requirements.
5. Generative AI and Authorship
Generative AI tools, including ChatGPT and other AI systems, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.
Authorship requires intellectual contribution, accountability, and the ability to take responsibility for the published work. AI systems cannot fulfill these responsibilities.
All responsibility for the manuscript remains with the human authors listed on the submission.
6. Use of AI in Peer Review
Reviewers must not upload or enter manuscripts, substantial portions of manuscripts, unpublished research data, personal information, or other confidential materials into Generative AI systems that do not guarantee appropriate confidentiality and data protection.
Reviewers are required to maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and to exercise their own independent scholarly judgment.
AI may be used to assist with limited technical tasks that do not disclose confidential manuscript content. However, the reviewer's evaluation, comments, recommendations, and editorial advice must reflect the reviewer's own scholarly assessment.
Reviewers remain fully responsible for all comments and recommendations submitted to the Editor.
7. Use of AI in Editorial Processes
Editors may use AI-based technologies for limited administrative or technical purposes where appropriate, provided that such use does not compromise:
- manuscript confidentiality;
- editorial independence;
- the objectivity of the peer-review process;
- the privacy and protection of authors' and reviewers' information;
- the integrity of the publication process.
Editorial decisions must remain the responsibility of human editors and must not be delegated entirely to AI systems.
8. Verification of References and Information
Authors are required to independently verify all information generated or assisted by Generative AI.
Particular care must be taken when verifying:
- scholarly references;
- Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs);
- legislation and regulations;
- court decisions;
- fatwas;
- Qur'anic verses;
- Hadith;
- scholarly and juristic opinions;
- theories and academic concepts;
- statistical data;
- historical information; and
- empirical claims.
Generative AI may produce inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, or entirely fabricated information and references. Therefore, AI-generated content must not be treated as a substitute for verified primary sources or authoritative scholarly sources.
9. Author Responsibility
By submitting a manuscript to Jurnal Risalah Addariyah, authors confirm that:
- the manuscript is academically responsible and can be appropriately defended by the authors;
- all sources have been properly verified and cited;
- any use of Generative AI has been conducted responsibly and, where required, transparently disclosed;
- Generative AI has not been used to engage in fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, or other forms of academic misconduct;
- all AI-assisted content has been critically reviewed and verified by the authors;
- the authors are prepared to provide clarification regarding the use of Generative AI if requested by the Editor.
10. Editorial Review and Actions
Jurnal Risalah Addariyah may request authors to provide clarification regarding their use of Generative AI if there are reasonable concerns that AI has been used in violation of this policy or established principles of research and publication integrity.
Where inappropriate or unethical use of AI is identified, the Editor may take appropriate action depending on the nature and severity of the violation, including:
- requesting clarification or revision;
- requiring disclosure of AI use;
- requiring the correction or replacement of AI-generated content;
- rejecting the manuscript prior to publication;
- retracting a published article where serious violations are subsequently identified; or
- taking other appropriate actions in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies.
11. Final Principle
Jurnal Risalah Addariyah considers Generative AI to be an assistive technology rather than a substitute for authors, researchers, reviewers, or editors.
The fundamental principle of this policy is that intellectual, academic, and ethical responsibility for scholarly work remains with the human individuals involved in the publication process.
This policy may be periodically revised in response to developments in Generative AI technology, emerging standards of academic integrity, and best practices in scholarly publishing.
